What started as basically a criminal law practice (including the successful defense in at least ten death penalty cases) has evolved into a diverse civil law practice with concentration on corporate law, banking law and offshore services.
Mergers and Acquisitions
We are unquestionably the most experienced law firm in Dominica in all legal matters required for a successful merger and acquisition. In the last 15 years, we have dealt with the biggest such matters in Dominica. They include:
- the Cable and Wireless (Dominica) Ltd reorganization
- the purchase by CIBC of the Dominica branch of Barclay’s Bank
- the acquisition of Dominica Brewery and Beverage Ltd.
- the Courts Ltd. acquisition
- the acquisition of the Dominica branch of American Life Insurance Company
Additionally, we have advised international banks on bond issues and related matters in Dominica.

*SC means Senior Counsel and is a distinction given to highly accomplished members of the Bar. In Commonwealth countries where the Queen of England is still Head of State, the title of Queen’s Counsel (QC) is used. Where she is not, Senior Counsel is used.
The firm was created and is headed by Alick Lawrence, SC*. Mr. Lawrence has vast experience in various fields of the law including constitutional, corporate, construction property law, and litigation. He enjoys an excellent reputation among the Dominican public and members of the local Bar. As a result, he has held directorships on numerous local corporate and civic organizations. He has also chaired various tribunals and has been a member of the Constitution Review Commission, the Elections Commission, the Constituency Boundaries Commission and the Board of Governors of the Dominica State College.
Another member of the legal staff is Ms. Rose-Anne Charles. She was called to the Bar in 2003 and holds a Masters Degree in International Law and Development from the University of Nottingham, United Kingdom. She has vast experience in various areas of law including company law, environmental law, foreign direct investment, international trade law, civil litigation and property law.
In addition to the legal staff, the firm boasts of highly qualified support staff with fluency in the French and Spanish languages.
